On August 5, the VPS suddenly became unreachable. I opened support ticket #547609 immediately. At first, support told me there was a disk issue on their storage server, that their technical team was working on it, and that they expected it to be fixed.
After waiting for around 3 days, I received a completely different outcome. They told me that the RAID on their storage server had become corrupted and that reinstalling the VPS was the only available solution. My previous data could not be recovered.
This makes absolutely no sense to me for a service sold as a Storage VPS. I bought separate storage specifically so that if something happened to my main server, I would still have my backups. Instead, the storage server itself failed and I lost the backups stored there.
Hardware failures can happen with any hosting company. My main problem is that there was apparently no way to recover my data after their disk/RAID failure. If my production server had crashed at the same time, I could have been left with no usable backup at all.
The support experience made it worse. I waited days while being told their team was working on the issue, only to eventually be told that the VPS needed to be reinstalled and the old data was gone.
This has been one of the worst experiences I have had with a hosting provider. After this incident, I personally cannot trust GotMyHost Storage VPS with important backup data, and I cannot recommend it for critical backups.
